Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.” —John 17:17
Hearing from God is essential to living the authentic Christian life. When a child of God finds it difficult to hear His voice, it often means the heart has turned its attention in the wrong direction. It means the soul has been feeding on things that do not produce righteousness. There are many sources of spiritual contamination—images, conversations, environments, and influences that dull your inner man and weigh down your spirit. If left unchecked, this spiritual filth will eventually cut you off from the flow of the anointing.
Feeding on anything that does not edify your spirit is filth. Engaging in ungodly conversations is filth. Surrounding yourself with people—family, friends, or co-workers—whose words are full of negativity, profanity, carnality, or unbelief can load your soul with enough spiritual dirt to blunt your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. The residue of their words and behavior stays on the mind and, if ignored, can weaken your spiritual sharpness.
Lot experienced this. Scripture says, “For that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard” (2 Peter 2:8). What he saw and heard tortured his soul daily. Maybe your workplace or neighborhood feels like that—filled with moral corruption, lawlessness, profanity, and perversion. Perhaps you’ve been around carnal believers whose doubt and complaining contaminate your atmosphere. If you find yourself growing dull spiritually, do not ignore it. Run to the Word. Take a spiritual bath.
Bathe yourself in the Word before leaving your house, and bathe again when you return. Saturate your mind in Scripture until your spirit is cleansed, strengthened, and realigned. Do not allow thoughts of fear, lust, anger, or offense to roam unchecked. Counter every contradicting thought with the Word. If you fail to guard your mind, those seeds of compromise will grow into larger challenges down the road.
Galatians 5:9 cautions, “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.” Small, unchecked thoughts become tomorrow’s strongholds. James 1:14–15 explains that desires turn into actions, actions into habits, and habits into death. Nothing happens by accident. This is why a spiritual bath is not optional for you—it is vital.
Ephesians 5:26 reveals God’s method: “Cleansing her by the washing with water through the word.” Let the Word wash your thoughts, your imagination, and your emotions. Give no room to the devil.
God told Joshua, “Keep the Word always on your lips; meditate on it day and night… then you will be prosperous and successful”(Joshua 1:8). Continual meditation not only guarantees progress, it keeps your spirit in tune with God 24/7. Sanctification is by the Word—and only by the Word.
Start today. On your way to work, tune in to a message that builds your faith. Fill your environment with the voice of God. Give your attention only to what produces righteousness, faith, and spiritual strength.
God bless you.
Faith-Filled Confession
I am sanctified by the Word of God.
My mind is cleansed, renewed, and aligned with truth.
I refuse every thought that contradicts the Scriptures.
My spirit is sharp, my heart is sensitive, and my ears are open to the voice of the Holy Ghost.
I walk in purity, power, and continual fellowship with the Lord.
Hallelujah!
