"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." (Galatian 5:16)
The flesh is both an asset and a liability. It is an asset because it gives you the right to function as God's agent on earth but is a liability because it requires mastery. If you do not endeavor to master your flesh, it will effortlessly master you.
Today's theme scripture is about appetite management as it is about mind management because what you feed grows in your life and what you starve dies. The Bible says, "For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life" (Galatians 6:18). The import of this, is that you must be deliberate about what and where you are sowing.
If you focus on sowing to the spirit, reading your Bible, holding personal prayer vigils, attending church meetings and spreading the Gospel, you are also restricting the flesh from transacting its business. This is why nothing is too much for you to give to God in terms of your attention. Romans 8:12-13 says, "Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."
Saints, two laws are always at work and perpetually we ought to be mindful of the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus because it has made us free from the law of sin and death according to Romans 8:2. I love to liken you, the believer, to a Boeing 777 Jetliner with a capacity to board a lot of passengers en route to a destination, the kingdom of God. It is the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus that provides the basis that you will get you and your passengers, the many people who are connected to you, to the destination.
If you understand the physics behind the laws of lift and gravity, you will understand the former requires more power to act upon the latter. This is why our walk in the spirit must entail fasting, mediations, Bible study, prayer, and above all, an excellent love walk. If God wanted us in heaven, we would have gone there immediately after we got saved but there's too much work here and it requires that we press in the spirit. So be excited when there is a call to fast, pray, evangelize and demonstrate liquid love.
Soon and very soon, it would pay off as the Lord comes for you, His bride. Why have I written to you like this today? It is to say, don't give up but run to obtain the prize of following Jesus. It will definitely require more effort and the price is steep but when He appears, we shall not be able to tell Him apart from us. 1 John 3:2-3 says, "Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure."
Have a blessed day, today!
