DON’T PLAY ALONG

5/25/2026

“…Don’t sin because others do, but stay close to God.” — 1 Timothy 5:22 (CEV)

As believers, we must be careful about the conversations we entertain and the company we keep. Some discussions may appear harmless on the surface, but spiritually they can become dangerous and destructive. Certain conversations open doors to offense, bitterness, division, and even spiritual decline if they are not handled wisely.

A powerful example is found in the story of Miriam and Aaron when they spoke against Moses because of his choice of a wife. Miriam said, “Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t He also spoken through us?” What she said may have sounded factual because God had indeed used both Miriam and Aaron. However, the problem was not simply the words themselves but the spirit behind them. Her comments were rooted in offense, frustration, and pride.

Instead of praying about the situation or trusting God’s wisdom, Miriam allowed her personal feelings to grow into criticism against God’s appointed servant. Aaron also made a serious mistake by agreeing with the conversation instead of stopping it. He played along, and the result was devastating. Miriam suffered severe consequences that affected her reputation, ministry, and future.

Child of God, never underestimate the danger of joining in conversations that dishonor or undermine those whom God has anointed. When people begin making sarcastic remarks, gossiping, or speaking negatively about ministers, leaders, or others, do not participate. Shut down such conversations with wisdom and grace.

First Epistle to the Corinthians 15:33 says, “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’” Every time you entertain negative and divisive conversations, you expose your heart and spiritual life to corruption. Not every discussion deserves your agreement or attention.

There will always be people who want to draw others into offense and criticism, but you must remain spiritually discerning. Encourage people to handle conflicts prayerfully and directly rather than spreading negativity behind someone’s back. Be a person who promotes peace, healing, and unity instead of division.

You may not always understand every decision or situation around you, but your responsibility is to trust God, pray, and guard your spirit. Never allow offense or careless conversations to weaken the anointing and grace upon your life.

Some friendships and conversations are simply not worth compromising your spiritual health over. Protect your heart, protect your calling, and refuse to play along.

God bless you!

Faith-Filled Confession

Christ is my wisdom, and the Holy Spirit guides my words, thoughts, and actions. I choose conversations that honor God and bring peace, life, and encouragement. I refuse to participate in gossip, offense, or destructive speech. My heart is guarded, my spirit is discerning, and I walk in love and wisdom daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
