BEWARE OF THE DISORDERLY

12/16/2022

"For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies." (2 Thessalonians 3:11)

Paul didn't write this to non-believers, no. He wrote today's theme scripture to saints; saints like you and me, saying that gossip and talebearing are a disorderly way to walk in Christ. Note that these people who gossip and bear tales were God's people too, blood-bought and washed saints.

If these people were among the church of Bible days, they are among us today and the admonition I bring today is that you do not participate in such disorderly walk among God's people.

The Bible is very diagnostic and prescriptive of busybodies in the church who go around casting aspersion on others. As a matter of fact, when Jesus said, "“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves" (Matthew 7:15) , He was referring to talebearers.

Notice what the Master said, "Beware of false prophets". Gossip is false prophecy because it is powered by the spirit of error. By the expression, 'false prophets,' He wasn't referring to ministers as many have supposed. Otherwise, He would have said that these false prophets would come to you in 'shepherd's clothing.' Rather the ravenous wolves in sheep's clothing means that gossips and busybodies are among the saints.

That said, the Bible gives us a few prescriptions for dealing with gossip. First, Roman 16:17 says, "Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them." There is a reason why the Bible asks us to note these people and it does not prescribe that we scold them or call them names,no. Rather, you are to note them to avoid getting into a conversation with them as you can control what he or she may say to you.

2 Thessalonians 3:6 says, "But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us." In other words, shy away from saints that gossip or meddle in offence.

There are two types of people that the Bible says to avoid explicitly; gossips and fornicators. So, if ever you encounter a gossip in the workplace or wherever, know quickly what to do. Shut your ears and excuse yourself for nothing is as contagious and contaminating in nature as gossip and fornication

A gossip is a chief weapon in the hands of the enemy for dismantling churches and unraveling God-ordained associations. Proverbs 16:24 says, "A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends."

Run away if you ever encounter someone speaking unwholesomely about another person, more so, if the person speaking and the person being spoken about are believers. Run!!!

God bless you.

Faith-Filled Confession

I position myself in opposition to gossip. I reject the spirit of error and embrace truth always, in Jesus' name. Amen
