"The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." (Psalm 19:9-10)
When the fear of the LORD is mentioned in the Bible, the reference is to having reverence for God. It means that one considers the things of God with the gravity that it deserves. Now, this consideration, the Bible says, is more valuable than purified gold. In a sense, the Lord is telling us that the fear of the Lord is a thing to be coveted.
Why? The Psalmist tells us that the fear of the LORD would accrue certain benefits to our account. For example, Psalm 34:7 says, "The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them." In other words, the Holy Spirit finds your reverence of God attractive to the point that He becomes jealously protective of you if anyone or thing tries to bring harm to you.
Next, the Bible says, "Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him" (Psalm 34:9). Another version says, those who fear the LORD lack nothing.
Now someone might be asking how do I fear the LORD? I mean, loving God comes naturally to you because the love of God has been shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Spirit (according to Romans 5:5), but the fear of the LORD is an impartation of the Holy Ghost that happens via teaching. In Psalm 34: 11-14, the Bible says, "Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it."
One sure way to know that you fear God is when you are no longer at ease with any kind of wrongdoing. Exodus 20:20 says, "... the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning." Job 1:1 says, "There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil." Until you become utterly allergic to any type of wrongdoing, the Holy Ghost still has a job to accomplish in the area of producing the fear of the LORD in your life.
Speak in other tongues to punctuate today's devotion. You are made of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Have a splendid day. God bless you!
Faith-Filled Confession
I am made of a quick understanding in the fear of the LORD. The sights and sounds of wrongdoing are utterly distasteful to me, and the name of my God is hallowed in my speech and conduct. Hallelujah!
One-Year Reading Plan: Job 7-9; Acts 7:44-60
Day Two
Scripture Reading and Meditation
Psalm 133
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
Matthew 12:25 "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand."
"And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." Genesis 11:6
Prayer Points
Speak blessing and unity over your family. Pray and ask God to give every member of your family the heart of forgiveness. Pray against any rooted seed of bitterness and offense. Ask God to bring everyone together in love, peace, and unity in the name of Jesus.
Pray that every member of your family will triumph gloriously over the peculiar challenges that they may be dealing with at the moment. Declare that they are marvelously helped by the Spirit of God. That they always walk in the consciousness of the Spirit of dominion that is resident in them. Pray that they are anxious for nothing.
Pray that every child in your family will be shielded from all evil and wicked devices of the enemy, rescued from wicked and unreasonable men, protected on every side, undistracted by negative peer pressures, but growing up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, fulfilling their purpose in Christ.
Pray also for their parents, that they be guided in God's wisdom to lead their children in the way that they should go, causing them to be excellent in every way, to the glory of God. Hallelujah!
Pray that every member of your family will excel by the power of the Holy Ghost. Pray for those who are not born again.
