"Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest." — Matthew 9:38
Jesus looked at the multitude and saw something others might have missed. He saw people who were weary, scattered, and in need of a shepherd. His response was not simply to criticize the condition of the harvest—it was to call His disciples to pray.
“Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers.”
The harvest is still plentiful today.
There are people around us who need to hear the Gospel. People need hope, direction, healing, restoration, and the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. The problem is not that God has stopped working. The problem is that there is a need for more willing laborers.
Notice that Jesus did not first say, “Pray for the harvest.” He said, “Pray for laborers.”
Why? Because God has chosen people to participate in His work.
The answer to someone's prayer may be you. The encouragement someone needs may come through you. The Gospel someone needs to hear may be shared by you.
The person someone needs to invite to church may be reached because you obeyed the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Listen, you don't have to be a preacher to be a laborer. You can labor through prayer, evangelism, serving, generosity, encouragement.
Jesus said the harvest is plentiful. That means there are more opportunities than we often recognize. Look around you. Your workplace is a harvest field. Your neighborhood is a harvest field. Your family is a harvest field. Your school, community, and relationships are harvest fields.
There are people God has strategically placed around you. So don't just complain about the condition of the world.
Become part of the answer.
Pray for laborers. And then make yourself available to be one. Perhaps the prayer you have been praying for someone else's salvation is connected to the obedience God is asking of you.
The harvest belongs to the Lord, but He has chosen us to help gather it.
Child of God, lift your eyes and see the harvest. Ask the Lord to send laborers. And when He says, “Go,” be ready to answer:
“Here I am. Send me.”
God bless you.
Faith-Filled Confession
I am available for the Master's use. I see the harvest around me, and I refuse to remain a spectator. I am a laborer in God's harvest. I pray, serve, give, encourage, evangelize, and obey as the Holy Spirit leads me. God uses me to reach people with His love and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am willing, equipped, and ready to go wherever He sends me. Here I am, Lord. Send me. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
