Acts 16:14–15
“One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message. When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home…”
1 Timothy 2:4
“[God] desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
2 Corinthians 5:19
“That God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting their sins against them, and He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”
The responsibility of preaching the Gospel has been entrusted to us—not to angels or any other created being. Scripture makes this unmistakably clear in the conversion of Cornelius. Though an angel appeared to him, the angel did not preach the gospel. Instead, he said, “Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He will convey to you a message by which you and all your household will be saved” (Acts 11:13–14).
One would think that God would assign such a sacred task to angels—but He did not. God’s plan was to anoint you with the Holy Spirit and make you a reconciler. That anointing is on you right now, and it often functions best when you do not feel it.
Paul exhorts us in 2 Timothy 4:2, “Preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season.” In other words, preach when you feel like it—and when you do not. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the reason you are alive today. You are a partner with the Spirit of God in reconciling the world to Himself. Let the love of Christ compel and persuade you to share the Gospel.
Soul winning is not an occasional activity for the Christian—it is a way of life. You do not need to “feel” an anointing to tell others about Jesus, nor do you need a “greater” anointing. The anointing you received when the Holy Spirit came to live in you is sufficient.
Acts 1:8 declares, “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses…”Notice that you do not have to pray to be sent. The moment you were saved, you were sent. God has already commissioned and empowered you to preach the Gospel to your world.
Do not wait for another sign or instruction. The next time you find yourself among those who are not saved, open your mouth and allow God to flow through you. The Gospel has been entrusted to you. Do not pass the responsibility to someone else, because when you stand before Jesus, He will ask, “What did you do with the Gospel I committed to your trust?”
Saints, soul winning is God’s number one priority, and it must become ours. Be intentional. Be prayerful. Be bold. Begin by praying for the lost, and then use every tool God has placed in your hands to tell others about Jesus Christ.
Prayer Points
Intercede for relatives, friends, and acquaintances who have not yet received Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Declare an exodus from darkness in your city and proclaim salvation for many.
Pray that outreach and evangelistic efforts this year yield a great harvest of souls to the glory of Jesus.
Pray that as souls are saved, the Church experiences numerical and spiritual increase.
Pray that hearts will be open and receptive to the Gospel, just as Lydia’s heart was opened by the Lord.
Refute every work of darkness in your city; declare that light has come. Come against crime, racism, drug abuse, and every form of oppression.
Faith-Filled Confession
The Holy Spirit who lives in me has equipped me to be an effective soul winner. I am bold in declaring the message of Jesus Christ, and I am fruitful in my ministry of reconciliation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
