Epistle to the Romans 12:11 says, “Do not let your zeal subside; keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”
In life, there will be moments that test your devotion to God. Challenges, disappointments, offenses, and delays may try to weaken your faith and drain your spiritual passion. But you must guard your heart and refuse to allow the fire of God within you to go out.
Just as a natural fire needs fuel to keep burning, your spiritual life also requires constant nourishment. Prayer, fellowship with God, meditation on His Word, and maintaining the right attitude are essential to sustaining spiritual fervor. If these things are neglected, a believer who was once vibrant and passionate can gradually become spiritually dry and indifferent.
One major factor that influences your spiritual life is your attitude. Your attitude affects your relationships, decisions, and responses to life’s circumstances. A wrong attitude can hinder progress and keep a person trapped in frustration and defeat, while a right attitude opens the door for growth, peace, favor, and fulfillment. Indeed, your attitude can determine your altitude in life.
Sadly, selfishness and pride have damaged many relationships, marriages, and friendships today. Even among believers, there are times when people become more focused on their own feelings, expectations, and desires rather than showing love, patience, and understanding toward others. This should not be so among God’s people.
Jesus Christ remains our perfect example. In the Gospel of Matthew 20:28, He said, “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Though He is Lord over all, He demonstrated humility, compassion, sacrifice, and selfless service. His life revealed the true nature of love.
As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His character. A self-centered lifestyle weakens spiritual growth and often leads to offense, division, and unnecessary pain. But when your focus is fixed on Christ rather than on yourself, your heart remains protected from bitterness, resentment, and disappointment.
Your spiritual fire stays strong when your heart is continually centered on Jesus. However, constantly dwelling on offenses, painful experiences, and frustrations can slowly extinguish your passion for God. Bitterness drains spiritual strength, hinders growth, and affects your fellowship with God.
Child of God, choose to remain spiritually ablaze. Surrender your plans, desires, and burdens to the Lord, trusting that His will for your life is good and full of purpose. Refuse to allow temporary challenges to weaken your commitment to Him. Continue serving God faithfully with joy, diligence, and unwavering devotion.
First Epistle to the Corinthians 15:58 in The Message translation says:
“Stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for Him is a waste of time or effort.”
Remain steadfast in faith. Stay committed to God’s purpose. Keep your spiritual fire burning brightly for Christ.
God bless you!
