A NEW WAY TO THINK

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).

Your life will always move in the direction of your thoughts. What dominates your thinking will eventually shape your words, your actions, and ultimately your experiences. Many people try to change their behavior without first changing the mindset that fuels that behavior. But lasting transformation begins from within. Scripture says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). In other words, your thoughts are the blueprint of your life.

This is why the enemy fights so hard for your mind. If he can influence your thinking, he can influence the course of your life. But God has given you the ability through His Word and Spirit to renew your mind and align your thoughts with His truth. Romans 12:2 says, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” True transformation begins when your thoughts begin to agree with God.

Right thinking is more than positive thinking. Right thinking is thinking in agreement with who Christ is in you and what His Word says concerning you. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). Therefore, if He is your truth, your thoughts must align with His finished work. Since Christ is your peace, think peace. Since He is your healer, think health. Since He is your victory, think victory. Refuse to meditate on defeat, fear, lack, or failure.

Philippians 4:8 instructs us to meditate on things that are true, noble, pure, lovely, admirable, and praiseworthy. In other words, train your mind to dwell on the realities of God’s kingdom instead of the negativity of the world around you. When your thoughts become filled with God’s Word, your words will begin to change, and your life will begin to reflect the victory already secured for you in Christ Jesus.

Child of God, if there are areas of your life that seem out of alignment, begin by examining your thought life. Replace every negative thought with God’s promises concerning you. Meditate daily on His Word and boldly declare what He says about your life. In due time, your experiences will line up with the truth you continually think and speak.
